HONORARY DEGREE PROGRAMS

Recognizing exceptional individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service,

leadership, and contributions to the Church, education, society, and the Kingdom of God.

1. Purpose

This policy defines the criteria, procedures, and limitations for conferring honorary degrees. The purpose of honorary degrees is to recognize individuals who have rendered outstanding service in Christian ministry, education, humanitarian work, leadership, or other areas of significant contribution to society and the Kingdom of God.



2. Types of Honorary Degrees

The institution may confer the following honorary degrees:

Doctor of Divinity (D.D. h.c.)

For distinguished contributions in theology, preaching, and church leadership.

Doctor of Ministry (D.Min. h.c.)

For pastoral and missionary excellence in ministry and leadership.

Doctor of Letters (D.Litt. h.c.)

For literary and academic contributions, including books and biblical teaching.

Doctor of Humane Letters (L.H.D. h.c.)

For humanitarian service, peace initiatives, and community development.

Doctor of Sacred Theology (S.T.D. h.c.)

For achievements in biblical scholarship and theological education.

Doctor of Education (Ed.D. h.c.)

For outstanding contributions to education and the establishment of training institutions.

(The institution may add other honorary degrees as needed.)

3. Eligibility Criteria

Honorary degrees will be awarded only to individuals who:

Have at least 15 years of distinguished service in their respective field.

Have made a significant national or international impact in church, education, or society.

Demonstrate integrity, moral character, and Christian witness.

Have produced substantial work such as books, institutions, or projects that blessed communities.

Have not requested or purchased the degree for personal or financial gain.

4. Nomination Process

1. Nomination

Candidates may be nominated by the Board of Directors, faculty members, or recognized organizations.

2. Documentation

A full dossier including biography, record of service, list of publications/projects, and references must be submitted.

3. Evaluation

The Academic Council together with the Spiritual Advisory Board will evaluate the nomination.

4. Approval

Final approval rests with the Board of Trustees.

5. Conferral

The honorary degree will be conferred at a graduation or special convocation ceremony.

5. Restrictions

An honorary degree is not an academic qualification and carries no course credit.

It may not be used as a professional credential for employment or ordination.

No honorary degree may be granted without Board approval.

No degree shall be granted in exchange for donations or financial consideration.
